Joss decided to actually take a nap this afternoon so Alex and I decided to try out a science experiment from the book he got for Easter. We flipped through the pages of the book until we found one where we had all of the stuff and could be completed in under 30 minutes (just in case the nap didn't last long). We found one call The Secret Fat, and since I have been doing a fitness challenge and talk a lot about calories and fats in the food we buy and eat, it was already a topic of interest for him. He was excited to start.
Alex went in the pantry to find all the snack food. We decided to use popcorn, potato chips and Oreo cookies. Then we laid out 3 paper towels on the deep freezer. We put a half a cup of each snack food on a paper towel, then set the timer for 10 minutes. While we waited we each took a guess as to which would have the biggest grease mark. We also talked about food and how it is what fuels our body and that we need to make sure we are putting a lot of the good, clean fuels in our body.
After ten minutes we checked the paper towels. The potato chips had the most grease spots and cookies had the least. Alex asked if he could make a really big grease spot using my cooking oil, so I poured a little in the cap for him to poor on top of all 3 paper towels. He thought that was pretty cool!
